This body of work explores the artistic possibilities of bioplastic: a plastic produced from renewable plant based sources. It began as a search for an eco-friendly alternative to acrylic gel medium, which was used to create Sueños de Café. However, bioplastic proved to be more than a replacement. It could do things that acrylic could not (and vice versa).

In some instances, its unique properties are emphasized; its natural pale yellow color, the way it shrinks and creates cracks and grooves, or its potential to produce both rough and smooth textures. In other instances, it is combined with handmade pigments and found organic objects, demonstrating its ability to absorb, mold, and transform.

For the most part, the natural tendencies of the bioplastic inspired the artwork. The hand of the artist is evident in forms that are reminiscent of the human body, such as flesh or organs. Thus signifying the relationship between humans and nature and the way they mimic and influence one another.
